Do we have to have a Google Cloud Project ID?

I'm just using the Gemini API, I don't have a Google Cloud Project ID. Will that disqualify me?

Hi there, if you do not have a Google Cloud Project ID, please be sure to include your Google Cloud account. We need to be able to prove you created your project. Thanks

Hi Dani, I have created a Google Cloud project (Google-Hackathon) to be able to use cloud storage for my fine-tuning dataset for the Gemini Hackathon. It is asking for billing account. Is there a Hackathon billing account that I can associate my project with. Otherwise looks like I'll be billed. thanks

Thanks for responding Dani. Could you please explain what you mean by "Google Cloud account"? Do you mean the credentials (my email in my case) I use to log in and get an API key? This is the only thing I have left to fill in before submitting my project but I am still unclear what is required.

Could you also please elaborate on how that proves we created our projects?

    Thanks

Hi! We do not have a hackathon billing account. I encourage you to make sure you are in a region where the product is available freely. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.

In regard to the Cloud Project ID, please see below:

Project ID: A globally unique identifier for your project.

A project ID is a unique string used to differentiate your project from all others in Google Cloud. After you enter a project name, the Google Cloud console generates a unique project ID that can be a combination of letters, numbers, and hyphens. We recommend you use the generated project ID, but you can edit it during project creation. After the project has been created, the project ID is permanent.

A project ID has the following requirements:

Must be 6 to 30 characters in length.
Can only contain lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
    Must start with a letter.
    Cannot end with a hyphen.
Cannot be in use or previously used; this includes deleted projects.
Cannot contain restricted strings, such as google, null, undefined, and ssl.

Thanks for the response Dani. The project guidelines point us to AI Studio to generate an API key, not to Google Cloud. Can I point to my AI Studio credentials in this field? If so then how?

I have created a Google Cloud project now to get an ID. Will that ID suffice? Note that it is not what I used to develop my project but rather, as the guidelines told me, I used the AI Studio credentials.

    All help appreciated

From your answer, it sounds like you may have used AI studio and not the API. Can you confirm?

Yes am in the same predicament
I used my api key from ai studio to make my app.

Please be sure to use the API
