Unable to access the Gemini API key, but I reside in Canada and allowed to participate

Hi, I am a little confused. According to the rules, people residing in Canada are allowed to participate in this hackathon as it is not in the list of countries not allowed to participate. However, I am unable to get Gemini API key. And in one of the discussions, the manager mentioned that if you don't have access to the API then you are not eligible to participate in the hackathon. So, I am confused. Can you please provide some clarity?

**Also, how can I access the Gemini API?**

Excerpt from the rules:
"2. ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible to enter the Contest, you must be: (1) above the age of majority in the country, state, province or jurisdiction of residence (or at least twenty years old in Taiwan) at the time of entry; (2) not a resident of Italy, Brazil, Quebec, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Sudan, Belarus, Russia or the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic or Luhansk People’s Republic (3) not a person or entity under U.S. export controls or sanctions; and (4) have access to the Internet as of March 18, 2024. Contest is void in Italy, Brazil, Quebec, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Sudan), and where prohibited by law."

Hi there, the hackathon will be limited to people in regions where the Gemini API is available.

Is this correct? Can't I use Vertex AI and participate? I live in Sweden.

Turn off your VPN...that might be why it isn't working. I had the same issue!
